Dotwork tattoos, mandalas & sketching — medieval and Mesoamerican inspiration
@toujoursaumemepoint
Flo, who holds a degree in archaeology and specialises in the Middle Ages, draws his inspiration from his passion for history and ancient art. His tattoos reflect a deep connection with these worlds rich in symbols.
Fascinated by medieval art, and stained-glass windows in particular, he brings the intricacy of mandalas into his tattoos, playing with light and delicate, lace-like forms. His attraction to Mesoamerica, especially the Aztec and Maya civilisations, also shapes his work. Their cultures, rituals and ancient art inspire him to create unique pieces, whether sacred motifs or more ethnic expressions drawn from these peoples' prehistory.
His current ambition is to shine a light on these tattoo traditions, often little known, and to modernise them while respecting their essence.
Flo sees tattooing not only as an aesthetic art, but also as a ritual practice deeply rooted in history, once serving as a rite of passage or a form of spiritual protection. His preferred techniques, dotwork (pointillism) and sketching (spontaneous drawing), let him play subtly with light while keeping an aesthetic that is both raw and light.
Each tattoo is designed to fit harmoniously with the curves of the body, creating a natural ornament that enhances its movements.
For Flo, every detail counts. Dot after dot, line after line, he turns history and culture into living works of art on the skin.
His styles: ornamental and dotwork · graphic and geometric · tribal and Polynesian · fine line, minimalist and lettering
