Floating Helix Piercing
Floating Helix
Floating Helix
The floating helix is a very particular kind of helix piercing.
It sits right at the top of the ear, in an area that is very often hidden by the rim of the ear. The piercing site itself is therefore not visible, hence its other name, the "hidden helix".
The piercing is a little painful but extremely quick. As with most cartilage piercings, it is the healing that gets complicated: allow between 3 and 9 months for complete healing. It is recommended not to sleep on the piercing throughout healing, to avoid slowing it down and making the piercing drift. So choose to have it done on the ear you sleep on least!
For healing, we will fit a piece of jewellery designed for this piercing, so that you can see it and enjoy it while it heals. It is a small bar hidden at the top of the ear, from which a chain with a pendant hangs. The jewellery is available in silver or gold colour.
Once your piercing has healed, you can change the jewellery. You can then opt for:
- straight jewellery: for this placement you will need to choose pieces with chains or pendants so that they are visible.
- small rings, placed vertically around the rim at the very top of the ear. Here again you can add a pendant, which looks great in this area.
To sum up, the floating helix is a piercing that needs very specific jewellery, but it will give you a unique style. And it is one of the few piercings that let you dress the top part of the ear!
