The anti-tragus piercing is only just becoming known to the general public, and for good reason! Despite its many aesthetic appeals, it is a very demanding piercing, and here is why!

Its main drawback is its healing time: allow 3 to 12 months. It is generally the cartilage piercing with the longest healing time, right after the industrial (see the dedicated post).

Like all cartilage piercings, you should avoid catching it in your hair or sleeping on it while it heals. So choose the ear you sleep on least, as a priority!

So why do we see it more and more often?

For two very good reasons:

• the front ball sits above the lobe. This makes it possible to compensate for lobes pierced too low (unfortunately very common because of piercing guns at jewellers, see the post on lobes) and to rebalance this whole area of the ear
• the ball inside the ear gives this piercing a really original look.

As for the pain, it is similar to other cartilage piercings: extremely brief but definitely there, we won't pretend otherwise.

For the initial jewellery, we will fit a banana-type piercing.

You will have the choice between:

• A titanium banana with two classic balls
• A gold anodised titanium banana
• A titanium banana set with zircons

Once the piercing has healed, you can change your jewellery and opt for:

• bananas that are shorter than the initial jewellery
• very small rings

In both cases, we have the biggest choice of jewellery in the region in our shops.

As you will have gathered, this piercing is better suited to people who heal well or who are patient. But the result is worth the effort: a super original piercing that works with lots of different jewellery.
