Contrary to popular belief, the septum piercing does not go through any cartilage! It sits in the thin membrane between the upper cartilage and the lower cartilage, in the middle of the nose.
Allow 2 to 4 months for complete healing, which makes it one of the quickest and easiest piercings to heal.
As for the pain at the moment of piercing, it is similar to that of a nostril piercing. You may shed a small tear at the time (a reflex caused by the area, not by pain), and five minutes later you can no longer feel it.
It is also the only facial piercing that will never leave visible scars!
