ChatGPT-made image

Coming in with an image made by ChatGPT? Here is what we do with it

Have you created an image with artificial intelligence (ChatGPT, Midjourney or another tool) and would like to have it tattooed? It is a reference like any other, and we look at it as we do at all the ones people bring us. But an image on a screen is not yet a tattoo. Here is what changes between the two, and how to prepare your request.

What a tattoo artist does with an AI image

We treat it like any photo or drawing you bring in: a starting point. The tattoo artist looks at it, understands what you like about it, then designs your tattoo. It is this design, made for your skin, that we tattoo, not the original image.

Why we cannot tattoo the image as it is

  • Legibility at real size. An image is viewed large on a screen; a tattoo is read on a few centimetres of skin. Very fine lines and very dark areas close together quickly blur into one another.
  • How ink ages. Over the years, ink spreads slightly in the skin. Tiny or very tightly packed details that look sharp on the day of the session end up closing in. The tattoo artist thickens, spaces out and simplifies so that the tattoo still looks good in ten or twenty years.
  • Details that are too fine or inconsistent. Generated images often contain elements that do not hold up when you look closely: malformed hands or fingers, approximate lettering, patterns that do not connect. The tattoo artist corrects them in the design, before the needle.
  • Placement. An image is flat; the body has volume. A forearm, a shoulder or a calf distorts the design. The tattoo artist adapts the proportions to the curves and movements.

A design made for each client

With us, one rule is clear: we never tattoo a piece that has already been made. We draw a creation made specially for the client, starting from the idea.

How to prepare your request

To make the most of your first appointment, bring:

  • the AI image, on your phone or printed, and say that it is an AI image: it helps the tattoo artist;
  • other references you like: photos, drawings, paintings, tattoos seen elsewhere;
  • what you like precisely about the image: the mood, a detail, the colours, the line;
  • the placement you want, and the approximate size in centimetres;
  • if possible, a photo of the area to be tattooed.

How to book an appointment

Choose the tattoo artist whose style is closest to your image, in our two tattoo shops: Tof (Japanese, old school), Flo (dotwork, sketching, mandala, lettering) or Zoé (fat line, minimalism). The tattoo artists page shows their work.

Book with the Book now button. The first visit to the tattoo shop is used to present your project, estimate the price and the time needed, and set the date of the session. The design is drawn once the deposit has been paid, at least 30% of the price of the tattoo. It is revealed to you on the day of the session, and changes are still possible.

Frequently asked questions

Will you tattoo my AI image exactly?

No, not as it is. The tattoo artist redraws it so that it holds up on the skin and over time: more legible lines, simplified details, proportions adapted to the placement. The spirit of your image stays; the design is adapted.

Can I email my image to get a quote?

No, quotes are not given by email. You need to come to the tattoo shop or book a consultation appointment, so that the tattoo artist can assess the size, placement and complexity.

Does a design from an AI cost more?

The price does not depend on where the image comes from but on the work required: drawing time, size, placement and fineness of detail. The more detailed a design, the longer it takes. The minimum price of a tattoo is €80.

What if I do not like the result?

The final design is shown to you on the day of the session, and changes can be made to suit your wishes before the tattoo begins.
