## Monroe

The Monroe piercing is a labret piercing located above the mouth, off-centre to the right or left. It is known by other names: Marilyn, beauty spot, Madonna, …

When piercing, we will fit a straight piece of jewellery with a flat disc on the inside of the mouth and a ball on the outside. The bar of the jewellery is deliberately longer to allow for a slight swelling of the area at the start of healing. The swelling does not usually appear straight away. You therefore need to be very careful at first not to catch the bar on your teeth, especially while eating. Once the skin has swollen, the bar will be less troublesome. The area will then gradually go down until the bar becomes bothersome again. You then need to come back to the shop to replace the bar with a shorter one. This is possible from 10 days, but every skin heals at its own pace: your piercer will tell you when the time has come. This change will let you finish healing smoothly.

Allow 2 months in general for a labret piercing to heal, but the first 2 weeks are the most restrictive. During this period, it is best to avoid eating anything too hard, too hot or too spicy, and above all to avoid alcohol, which can increase the swelling. On the other hand, you can indulge in ice creams and cold drinks, which will soothe you and limit the swelling.

Once your piercing has healed, you can change your jewellery if you wish. Most of our clients choose rhinestones or simple balls, but we have all sorts of more original compatible jewellery in stock. We advise switching to a plastic bar after healing: it needs to be changed regularly, but it protects your teeth.

It is very important to choose the right size of jewellery to the millimetre for an optimal look and comfort. This is why we recommend having your first jewellery change at the shop. Also be careful not to get this piercing on a whim, because it leaves small scars that can be irreversible if the piercing has been worn for many years. This is why we take the time to choose and test the placement with you, using small dots drawn in marker, so that your piercing suits your taste and flatters your face.
